Being offered a piece of gum changed my life.
My first plane ride was when I was five years old. I was going on my first big trip and I was so excited. We were flying into the Orlando airport and taking a big bus to Walt Disney World. All I wanted to do was 1) meet Winnie the Pooh, 2) see Cinderella's castle, and 3) fly on an airplane. I held my teddy bear tightly as I sat next to my mother and sister on the plane and waited on the tarmac, the excitement building in me as the plane's engine got ready for take-off. The plane began to drive on the tarmac. I looked out the window at our local airport and waited patiently for the moment I had been waiting for: the plane to reach the sky. After driving in what felt like a million circles, the plane sped up faster than I could've ever dreamed it would. We began soaring into the sky, the science behind it feeling like magic to me.
Well, no one told me about the impact that the change in altitude would have on my five-year-old ears.
"Mom, my ears hurt!"
"Mine do, too. That's normal. Do you want a piece of gum?"
"Chewing on gum will help your ears pop."
"It'll release the pressure that's building in your ears."
"Sure, I'll have a piece of gum."
This gum trick--dare I say--was the first travel hack I had ever learned. I had no idea that this tip would begin my love of travel and learning the ins and outs of it all.
I started this blog to carve out a space on the internet for me to talk about what I love and what I know about it. After studying abroad, I have learned so much about travel that I want to share with you all: from packing tips to underrated sights to see to restaurants to eat at, I hope I can teach you a thing or two about travel to help you prepare the best itinerary and make your travels a breeze!
I'm taking off. Will you come along for the ride?
