This blog post is currently being written in the middle of a global pandemic where travel has nearly ceased. However, I know that many people are dreaming about their next plane rides to far away places and exciting itineraries. With so many wonderful cities and countries to travel to in the world, it can be hard to narrow down your list of must-see places. People often ask me, where are your favorite places to travel to? I decided to make a list of my favorite international travel destinations!
London, United Kingdom
London truly feels like a second home to me. The city where I studied abroad, there are so many things to do, foods to try, and beautiful sights everywhere.
Wait... foods to try?
While England isn't world-renowned for its food, trust me when I say that the food here is delicious. I am a picky eater and could always find something great when we went out for meals. Some of my favorite places to eat were Angel in the Fields for their fish n' chips, Cereal Killer Cafe for its wide variety of--you guessed it--cereals and adorable 90s aesthetic, and Tibbits off of Regent Street for its amazing vegan and vegetarian food options.
Can't decide between city life and coastal living? Lisbon is your place! Its rich history, delicious food, and plethora of activities make it a great travel destination for everyone in your party.
What are the best things to do in Lisbon?
There are so many things to do in this beautiful city! Some of my favorite things to do there are taking a Hippotrip ride (think: Boston's duck boats), trying pastels de nata at the infamous Pasteis de Belem, and enjoying a bird's eye view from the comfort of your own telecabine. Looking for something educational? Visit the Castelo de S. Jorge to experience Portugal's rich culture and history.
Ah, the city of love. Paris is on many people's travel bucket lists, and for good reason. The city is nothing short of breathtaking.
Tell us a story about your time in Paris!
Going to Paris was a dream come true for me. My entire life, I dreamed of seeing the Eiffel Tower in person. Walking around on the first night there, I stopped in my tracks and began to tear up as I saw it for the first time, lights shimmering on the hour. To this day, it is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen in my life. I will never forget what it looked like or how that sight made me feel: incandescently happy.
I couldn't narrow it down to one specific city in the stunning country of Ireland. My travels took me coast to coast, and I hope yours do, too.
Where in Ireland should I go?
The picture above is me looking out at the Cliffs of Moher. This attraction is dedicated to the many lives lost at the cliffs. Harry Potter fans, you might recognize these cliffs from Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince film. Just an hour and a half drive will take you to Galway. This is the perfect place to have someone buy you a Claddagh ring! The birthplace of Claddagh, many jewelers make these beautiful rings for you to receive and enjoy. (Key word: receive. It's bad luck to buy your own!) Once you've finished up your time on the west coast, take a drive to the east coast and visit the capital city of Dublin! I would recommend taking a tour of the city. Make sure you stop for a bowl of vegetable soup at O'Neill's!
While times are tough right now for nomads, travel lovers, and chronic sufferers of wanderlust, one thing that brings me hope is the traveling I will do once everything settles.
Where should I go next? Are you coming along for the ride?
